Oh…noooooooooooooooooooooooo
Thank you for our lovely Hong Kong government I got my salary deducted for August, since almost the whole month the company cannot do any dinner service. Even worst I lost my wallet in a mini bus, and I have two thousand dollars in it. ( I will curse the person who took my wallet, you can take the money but at least return the ID card for me! Show some human decency! Since we cannot vote any more so the ID card is pretty much useless) Need to register for a new ID card and all my bank card:( The worst was my air conditioner went down last week, hot summer humid day without air conditioner, I cannot stand it! So another few thousands dollar went out of my pocket.( I broke my toilet handle the day I start writing this episode) It IS a rough month for many of us, I will blame it all to our naive government, thank you so so much for your hard work!
So this month I have to sustain myself with limited amount of cash, can’t spend big money for fancy food, so no more sushi for September :(
One of my coworker is leaving us going back to Korea( super jelly), and I asked her how do you like Hong Kong, since you have been here for almost 2years, you have been through a lot with us! She said she can understand the situation, we will get through this! Then I ask how about the food in Hong Kong? She told me she doesn't like “Chinese” food, I am like hold on “Chinese” food? Have you been to local Hong Kong street food market? The cha chaan teng, the milk tea and the noodle soup? She replied she likes wonton… so she actually never been to cha chaan teng, or try any street food. That poor girl, two years in Hong Kong have never went to street food market! Can you believe that!
I am gonna recommend my favorite noodle soup in yeun long, cheap and delicious!
So sorry cannot find their name in English, they do not have English menu either, and I never seen a foreigner eating in this restaurant! All the customers are local, mostly from yuen long, we love their food!
Hong Kong people love noodle soup either hot and sour or tingly spicy, it will make us mouth drowning. Rice noodle soup has becoming a trend like tamjai samgor, you can see samgor’s restaurants cover every district every street, he is like a Hong Kong McDonald.
But my favorite is 小鍋米線 in yuen long, the whole set with ice lemon tea only cost me $48, so worth it! My favorite is best seller mild spicy noodle soup combo with fermented red beancurd chicken and a ice lemon tea! You will find a line when ever you go in, but it's worth the wait once you take a bite on that chicken! I have continuously visiting this particular restaurant over 10ish years, getting the same thing I am a very loyal customer of this restaurant! I believe many of their customers are just as loyal as me. Having this noodle when I am broke as fuck, it makes every negativity stop running in my brain but just eat and cherish this bowl of noodles. Everything will be fine when I eat that fermented red beancurd chicken.
Red beancurd chicken are so damn good but they are hard to make, you need to put enough beancurd to make it flavorful. But beancurd burn very easily, so you need to find the right balance of how many red beancurd to put, and the technique to fry the chicken till crispy but not burning the chicken skin. Once you have the chicken in 小鍋米線 you will never wanna order anything else from the menu, nowhere red beancurd chicken is better than 小鍋米線, that I can promise. Not only the beancurd chicken is excellent their garlic chicken chop is also pretty damn good, garlic flavor is always on point crispy and juicy chicken chop, yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
I come here mostly is for the chicken, but their noodle are mouth watering too! The best seller noodle is tingly spicy soup base with minced pork, lettuce, mushroom, sweet pickled veggie ( I love their pickle veggie so damn much), fresh bean curd, bean sprouts and some black fungus! Let me remind you one more time all of this with the chicken and a drink only cost you $48, what are you waiting for! In this restaurant nobody wants to talk, they just want take a moment and enjoy the delicacy of this bowl of noodle.
OF COURSE if no more salary deduction next month I will have extra money for sushi and fine dining, but whenever I have money or not I will still crave for this red bean curd chicken noodle soup. Is just a home run I better go home once or twice a moth, or else I will have home sick. (Red bean curd chicken home sick, or mouth sick or tummy sick)
And I recommend every tourists or foreigners to try hk style food, hk culture food! Don’t go back to your home country without trying any street food and tell your friend you hate“Chinese” food! Don’t stay in your comfort zone step out, and you will discover a whole lot more! Spicy noodle soup restaurant is like McDonald or kfc in Hong Kong so common and we love it, you really gotta try it, plz!
